School has started - time for some sewing!

February 21st 2012
Santiago, Chile

We arrived home on Sunday after two weeks in Montreal.  What I lacked in sewing (none at all!) was made up for in lovely family times on the ice, snow and around kitchen tables.   It was wonderful to catch up with our sons and their partners.  We are now back in Santiago after the long flight, pole to pole.   Gus has returned to school and so after the long summer break  I now have some time to sew.

As soon as I arrived in Montreal I picked up my quilt from Colleen who had machine quilted it for me.  I just couldn't wait to see it.  I had given her carte blanche to do whatever she liked with it and honestly, it couldn't be more perfect.   I love the way her quilting has brought all the blocks together and united the piece as a whole.   Although I told her she really could do whatever she liked with the quilting (and she knew I meant it) I think she knew that I love classic quilting motifs, hence all the wreaths and feathers.   I couldn't wait to see what it would look like finished and so I spent all of yesterday sewing on the binding.    It is unalike any of my other quilts (apart from the obvious red background) and the only quilt I have that is machine quilted.  A couple of years ago when I was busy making the book models for Beautiful Botanicals I had hope that I would be able to use them in a quilt eventually and I am thrilled with the result.   Those of you that have my book may recognize all the individual blocks.

Next week I am planning to post some detailed photo models for my trapunto method so in the meantime I had better get down to some work!
